What your IP address reveals
Your public IP address is the address websites see when you connect. It usually identifies your internet provider and a rough area, not your exact location or your name. At home it is typically shared by every device behind your router.
IPv4 and IPv6
IPv4 addresses look like 203.0.113.7. IPv6 addresses are longer. Many networks now offer both. If no IPv6 address is detected, your connection is IPv4 only, which is still common.
Privacy of this page
The lookup asks the free ipify service for your address, so ipify sees your IP, which any website you visit also sees. We do not store it. The browser details shown below come from your own device and never leave the page.
Why it can change
Home addresses are often dynamic and change when the router restarts. A VPN or proxy shows the address of that service instead of yours. Use the subnet calculator to see whether an address is private or public.
